Do you know what I think is one of the nicest things to think about and talk about? Heaven! Heaven is where God is, and when He takes us home to be with Him forever, that will be wonderful–don’t you think?
I like to read about Heaven in my Bible. One of the ways the Bible describes Heaven is “The Land of Milk & Honey”. I thought about that a whole lot the last year or so while I was writing my new Vacation Bible School program about God’s people and how God was leading them to a better land.
He is leading us to a better land, too. We are on our way to Heaven! What do you think it will be like when we get there?
Here is a fun project that you can do as you think about what Heaven is like: a Heaven collage. (It is especially fun to do this with your family. Each of you do your own project and share your ideas with each other.)
Here is what you will need for your Heaven collage:
- a plain piece of paper or lightweight card stock (We used construction paper.)
- magazines with nice pictures that you are allowed to cut out (Be sure to ask!)
- glue stick
All you need to do is look through the magazines for pictures that make you think of Heaven. Some ideas you might see are: green grass, flowers, smiling people, fresh fruit, flowers, peaceful animals, and things like that. Cut out the ones you like best.
Also cut out words and phrases (phrases are groups of words that work together) that remind you of Heaven. You may even cut words apart and mix them up to make the word you want. Here are some of the words I put on my collage: “perfect” “hope”, “Heaven”, “a family gathering”, “a perfect pear”, “love”, and “all I saw was the light and joy of God.”
There are more, but you get the idea. I am sure you will find some nice ones for your Heaven collage, too!
As you find your words and pictures, cut them out and lay them on your paper. That way you can see when your page is about full enough.
Arrange everything until it is the way you like it. Then glue each piece down by carefully rubbing your glue stick on the back side of the cut-outs. (Be sure to get glue all the way to the edges of your pieces.)
When you are all done, write your name and the date on the back of your collage. If you want, you can punch 3 holes in it (use a piece of binder paper as a guide) and save your Heaven collage in a special 3-ring binder.
I saved mine that way, and even though the edges have gotten worn-out and faded, it still makes me feel happy to look at the collage and think of how special it is going to be when Jesus comes soon to take us home!
Let’s plan to meet in Heaven and see if our beautiful thoughts of Heaven even come close to how wonderful Heaven really is, okay? 🙂
If you would like to read about Heaven in your Bible, here are a few ideas of where to look:
- Revelation 21 (Revelation is the last book in the Bible.)
- Revelation 22
- Isaiah 65:21-25 (Isaiah is in the Old Testament, a little over half-way through the Bible.)
If you would like to, I would be happy to hear some of the words and pictures you choose for your Heaven collage. Just leave a little note in the comments here when you are done. 🙂
