Something for the Children #7: Moving

My friend didn’t even have nearly this much stuff — but we had much more!

Have you ever had to move to a new home?  Our family just moved to a new home a few weeks ago.  There are six of us, and we seem to have a lot of stuff.

A friend of ours is moving, too, and she says her things were all loaded up in her car, ready to go.

Well, that was not the case for us.  It took several truck- and trailer- loads to pick up our canning jars, garden hoses, bicycles, computers, kitchen gadgets, clothes…Well, you get the idea.

We have had to move many times—and many of those times were not our idea.  This time, the owner of our home just decided she wanted her home back.  Of course, it is her home, so she is allowed to do that—but that meant we had to find a different home.

God helped us.  We actually were able to find a new home very quickly.

We like our new home a lot.  It is sunny and sits on a pretty, tree-dotted hillside.  It is also smaller than our old home, which means our things are struggling to fit inside.

We are having fun with that—it makes a good excuse to go through our things and look for those things that we thought we needed, but really would not mind living without.  We actually discovered quite a few of those and had a nice, little yard sale.

If we are not careful, it is very easy to find ourselves with stuff in our lives that really does not matter.

I am planning on another move very soon.  I don’t expect to need a truck for that one.  As a matter of fact, I will not even need a little car.

But packing for this move is more important than packing for any other move I have ever made.  This move will be forever.

There is a cloudy chariot coming to pick me up—and my Best Friend Jesus will be in charge of it.  Have you guessed where I am moving to?  Yes, Heaven!  And you can go, too!

What kind of things should we be sure to pack?  How about kindness and love and joy and peace?  If you don’t have those things yet, I know just where you can get them: from Jesus!  All you have to do is pray and ask Him.  He will give you all you need.

Let’s be sure to invite our friends, too.  Jesus said, “In my Father’s house are many mansions.”  There is plenty of room for all of us, so let’s get packing!

It's okay to be 1st! Or 549th, for that matter... I'm eager to hear from you!
