Today is July 4, the day the United States of America rejoices in the memory of a document created over 200 years ago that remains essentially relevant today: the Declaration of Independence. Many have come to America over the years, some in pursuit of religious freedom, some in pursuit of wealth, some simply hoping for peace and safety.
Sure, America is not perfect; but we have plenty to thank God for. I do not believe we will get any closer to true freedom this side of Heaven. So, today let us, as John Adams wrote, commemorate this day as “the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty.” Enjoy your food and your games and great displays of light. Enjoy your families, your children and your friends. Rejoice–but do not neglect the God of Heaven who has made this great country possible!
Happy Independence Day, America!
