page of open Bible

Peter may have fought with a physical sword to defend Jesus before, but this time he used a better sword–God’s Holy Word!

The Book of Acts the Power book one of my favorites.Hi Sheila.#MKBiblechat.Pedro Valdez
@pedrojrvaldez Hey, Pastor! Glad you could join us! #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Okay! Already our 5th week on Acts! :) Last was "Pentecost", which we actually finish 2day w "Preaching Jesus" #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Remember (Ac 2:13) th disciples were accused of being drunk b/c of speaking in other languages by Holy Spirit. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Q1 Peter stood up to defend the disciples. What did he use for defense? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome too early in the day lol #mkbiblechatLori Sedlak
Note: I misunderstood Lori’s response (I thought she was teasing about the chat being too early, lol.), but this is actually the first thing Peter said in introduction. See Acts 2:15. :) ~Sheila
@HastenHome The writings of the Prophet Joel #MKBiblechat.Pedro Valdez
@pedrojrvaldez Exactly. He went right to the OT Scriptures–the Word of God. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome #MKBibleChat a sword.he slashed the right ear of malchusstephen waweru
@IAMWAWESH4 True, he once did. Then at Pentecost, he switched to a better sword–the Sword of the Spirit! :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
RT @IAMWAWESH4: @HastenHome a sword.he slashed the right ear of malchus >> That is a great parallel, actually! #MKBibleChatHasten Home
First Peter shared several signs of the last days (one of which is the out-pouring of God’s Spirit). #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Then he began to preach Jesus. (Acts 2:21, on.) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Q2 Were the listeners aware of Jesus & the miracles of Jesus? (Ac 2:22) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome Yep! #Mkbiblechat.Pedro Valdez
Q3 If these people were so familiar w Jesus, why didn’t Peter use Jesus’ teachings to explain things to them? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome They believed more in the Old testament the law of Moses.#MKBiblechat.Pedro Valdez
Sometimes we just have to meet people where they are! #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome Amen! #MKBiblechat.Pedro Valdez
Q4 Peter made a bold accusation of his audience. What was it? Could they deny it? (Ac 2:23) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome That they were the ones who delivered Jesus over to be crucified and slain.#MKBiblechat.Pedro Valdez
Q5 How about us? Are we in any way guilty of Christ’s blood? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome Sad to say but yes! It hurts me to say each time a believer backslides we trample over his blood #MKBiblechat.Pedro Valdez
A5 Unfortunately, we are. Christ died for *our* sins. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities. Isa 53:5a #MKBibleChatHasten Home
The chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Isa 53:5b Precious Saviour! #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Peter met the people where they were, but he refused to leave them in darkness. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
So he turned to something the people were familiar with & reverent of: David. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
David spoke in Psalm 16 of not being left in hell (the grave) & of his body not seeing corruption (rotting). #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Q6 Did Peter believe this (Psalm 16:10) applied to David himself? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Psalm 16: http://kingjbible.com/psalms/16.htm #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome No he knew it applied to the Lord.#MKBiblechat.Pedro Valdez
A6 No. In fact, Peter pointed out that David "is both dead & buried, and his sepulchre is w us unto this day" #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Eccl 9:5 "For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing." #MKBibleChatHasten Home
My next Q was, who does Psalm 16 refer to, but you’ve answered that! :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
A8 Jesus. Jesus died, yes, but He is alive! Praise God! They saw Him with their own eyes. (Ac 2:30-32) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
*correction: A7 (sorry) :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord & Christ. Acts 2:36 #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Q8 Peter’s sermon struck the people’s hearts. Many were saved–& changed! What power opened their eyes, so to speak? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome It was the truth spoken under the power of the Holy Ghost.#MKBiblechat.Pedro Valdez
I think we are seeing a recurring theme here in Acts–don’t you? We need the Holy Spirit! #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome Amen! I don’t know what I would do with out the Holy Spirit.#MKBiblechat.Thank you Lord for the Holy Spirit.Pedro Valdez
Next week, let’s look at just what kind of effects this change had on the people! :) For now, let’s close with prayer… #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Father, open our eyes that we may see, but please don’t stop there… #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Give us wisdom that we may share Jesus w the world, meeting ppl where they are. Empower us w Your Holy Spirit. Amen. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Thank you, everyone, for being here. I really appreciate the interaction! Until next time…Hasten Home! :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome Amen! Great job Sheila! #MKBiblechat.Pedro Valdez
I’ll get the summary up on my blog as soon as I can. :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Acts 2:21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome lol….didn’t he say…we are not drunk…it is too early in the day? #mkbiblechatLori Sedlak
Note: See note on Q1, lol :)
@Wife_of_Pastor lol. I totally misunderstood! Yes, he did. I’ll be laughing about this 4 a while. I thought you meant too early 4 a Q, lol.Hasten Home
