The book of Acts #MKBibleChat – Chat #2 “Coming Again”

sun shining brightly behind clouds

“This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”

Note: The following is a basic record of this week’s Acts #MKBibleChat. I appreciate the interaction from @bassmanbrian and @GerryMcPherson. With such a small group, I seemed to be talking to myself some of the time, but I go on in faith. Behind-the-scene listeners are important, too! ;)

I pray that someone has received a blessing from the chat–and that you will, too!

We will be going through the book of Acts, a little each week. Want to join in next time? It’s a lot more fun that way! Join us at 3 pm Eastern (noon Pacific) on Thursday by following the hashtag #MKBibleChat on Twitter. We would love to have you!

Helpful read for next week:

  • Acts 1:12-26

For those who don’t know me already, I am Sheila; I’ll be leading out for the next hour. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Let’s open w prayer: Thank You, Father, for this time together. Please bless the opening of Your Holy Word. Amen. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
This is our 2nd chat on the book of Acts. Last week, we discussed “Witness”—today, “Coming Again”. :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
To start off, let’s back up just a little to Acts 1:6… #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Q1 Apostles asked Jesus, “Wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?” Where was their focus? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome they were wanting a davidic style strong kingly person to make Israel a power again #mkBiblechatBrian W.
@bassmanbrian Exactly. There focus was right here, right now! #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Q2 Where did Jesus *want* his followers to focus? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
RT @GerryMcPherson @HastenHome On spreading the Gospel >> Yes! (be sure to include hashtag #MKBibleChat so all can see. ;) )Hasten Home
Jesus wanted his followers to think BIGGER! Heavenly things. Spiritual things. :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Q3 What happened when Jesus was done speaking to the apostles? (Acts 1:9) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
A3 Jesus “was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.” (Acts 1:9) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Q4 Where did Jesus go when He was "taken up"? Bonus: How do you know? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome To the right hand of the Father. Acts 2:33 and a bunch of others. #MKBibleChatGerry McPherson
Ac 1:10 while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, 2 men stood by them in white apparel #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Q5 Can you think of another time a young man clothed in white had recently appeared? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome After the resurrection, in the tomb (Mark 16:5) #MKBibleChatGerry McPherson
@HastenHome transfiguration? #mkBiblechatBrian W.
RT @bassmanbrian: @HastenHome transfiguration? >>Hadn’t thought about that one! #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Q6 Who were these “men in white apparel"? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Repeat Q6 Who were these “men in white apparel"? (Hint: Matthew 28:2,3) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Would love to have everyone’s input on this one. :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
A6 Angels (In case you have any doubt, compare Mark 16:1-7 with Matthew 28:1-7.) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
BTW, we can check out the transfiguration passages in Matthew 17 & Mark 9, if anyone would like to. :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Okay. The message the angels bring is *very* important… #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Q7 Acts 1:11 Why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This __ __ which is taken up from you into heaven… (Fill in.) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
A7 This *same Jesus* #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Q8 So the question is, what Jesus was taken up? What do we know about Him? (Bonus if you can prove it. ;) ) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Would love to have everyone’s input on this one. :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
I will share some things I thought of. Feel free to add to the list as we go! The Jesus that was taken up into heaven… #MKBibleChatHasten Home
A8 He died. Luke 23:33,46 He did it to pay for our sins. John 1:29 … #MKBibleChatHasten Home
A8 He was sinless. Hebrews 4:15 #MKBibleChatHasten Home
A8 He rose from the dead. Luke 24:6 … #MKBibleChatHasten Home
A8 He loves us. John 13:34 … #MKBibleChatHasten Home
A8 & He had a physical body. (Luke 24:39a) “Behold my hands & my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, & see… #MKBibleChatHasten Home
(Luke 24:39b) …for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.” :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
So, “this same Jesus” will return. Amen! #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Now, the angels also said Jesus will “come in *like manner* as ye have seen him go into heaven.” (Ac 1:11) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Another important point to consider! This could be a whole other study… #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Q9 For now, let’s close with the question, Why does it matter that we know these things? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
I will leave that for you to think on. :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Let’s pray: Father, thank You for the blessed hope of Christ’s glorious appearing… #MKBibleChatHasten Home
May we press forward, as the apostles, with great joy! In Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Thank you to all who joined in & to any who are just listening. ;) Next wk, we wrap up Ac1. See U then, same time, same day! :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Titus 2:13 #MKBibleChatHasten Home
