Two birds soaring high in the sky

Today’s #MKBibleChat topic: “Disciples”. Do you choose to follow Jesus?

Note: The following is a basic record of this week’s Acts #MKBibleChat. Last week was a bit slow. Maybe the Lord was letting me get warmed up, because the interaction this week was great! I really appreciate all that participated and those that were listening in. I think we all got each other thinking! :)

We will be going through the book of Acts, a little each week. Want to join in next time? It’s a lot more fun that way! Join us at 3 pm Eastern (noon Pacific) on Thursday by following the hashtag #MKBibleChat on Twitter. We would love to have you!

"To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing." (Martin Luther King, Jr.) #MKBibleChatmarty edwards

Let’s open w prayer… #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Precious Father, as we open your word, guide us; lead us closer to You. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
This is our 3rd chat on the book of Acts. Last week, we discussed “Coming Again” – today, “Disciples”. :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Q1 What does the word “disciple” mean to you? What is a disciple? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
#mkbiblechat @HastenHome Student and follower who follows his Teachers teachingsScott Denard
@HastenHome #mkbiblechat A modern word for it would be to mentor. It means to train someone to do something.David Pitman
In Acts, sometimes the disciples are referred to as "apostles"… #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Apostle, on the other hand, is “the first or the best-known Christian missionary in any region or country.” #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome Actually the Greek is apostolos representative messenger envoy #mkbiblechatScott Denard
RT @LSDsr: @HastenHome Actually the Greek is apostolos representative messenger envoy >>That’s helpful, thanks. :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Isn’t that what God intends? We learn of Him, follow Him, and spread the Word! :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Q2 After Jesus had gone to Heaven, what were His disciples doing? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome Representing and being His messenger to the world #mkbiblechatScott Denard
@HastenHome waiting because Jesus said to wait #mkBiblechatBrian W.
@bassmanbrian Agreed I was thinking longer term, but yes #mkbiblechatScott Denard
@LSDsr Just about to say that, lol. :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
RT @bassmanbrian: waiting because Jesus said to wait>>That’s the answer I was looking for. How were they waiting? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@LSDsr They were quite apprehensive I am sure as well, while waiting, pre-Pentecost #mkBiblechatBrian W.
@HastenHome @hispoetry Thanx I am here for a bit till lunch. So they were prayerfully waiting, and praising:) #mkBiblechatBrian W.
#MKBibleChat they were waiting for the Holy Spiritbridgit sullivan
Let’s look at a couple verses… #MKBibleChatHasten Home
A2a These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication Acts 1:14 #MKBibleChatHasten Home
A2b they worshipped Jesus…And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Luke 24:52,53 #MKBibleChatHasten Home
#MKBibleChat i thought the praising came after the HS descended?bridgit sullivan
@hispoetry Check out the verses in Luke. Sounds to me like they were encouraged already. What do you think? Lk 24:52,53 #MKBibleChatHasten Home
#MKBibleChat b4 the 1 accord paasage Acts 1:15 they chose Matthias v. 26 all accord starts chptr 2bridgit sullivan
@HastenHome yes they were encouraged after seeing risen Christ b4 that they hid in upper room n locked all the doors #MKBibleChatbridgit sullivan
@hispoetry Might also consider Acts 1:14… #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome thanks ur right #MKBibleChatbridgit sullivan
@hispoetry No problem. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Let’s take these few verses apart a bit. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Q3 What does “with one accord” mean? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome One accord would be best described as in unison of spirit and will, in a like mind, #mkbiblechatScott Denard
@HastenHome I believe that points to their unity of focus on Christ. #mkBiblechat They all did it.Brian W.
Q4 What is prayer? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome I think prayer is communication with God, both talking to (out loud or in your head) and listening to Him #mkBiblechatBrian W.
I read recently it was about 10 days between ascension and Pentecost #mkBiblechatBrian W.
#MKBibleChat direct communication with God the Father in the name of God the Son thru unction of God the Holy Spiritbridgit sullivan
You all have the right idea. The 2-way communication is so important. (Not just talking, but listening, too!) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome I would agree while specifying petition, praise and listening in a personal connection to The Father and the Son #mkbiblechatScott Denard
Okay, Q5 How about “supplication”? What does that mean? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome My usual thought on this is to not bring God a shopping list of I wants without stopping to listen, thank, confess #mkBiblechatBrian W.
@HastenHome I think we ought to be doing supplication, that is making requests of God, after thanks, confessing etc #mkBiblechatBrian W.
A5 Notice, Supplication realizes our need and humbly asks of God. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
#MKBibleChat i agree with @bassmanbrian prayer needs to b more than a shopping listbridgit sullivan
@bassmanbrian Yes. I agree. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
#MKBibleChat scripture says enter throneroom boldly but boldness doesnt negate need for humilitybridgit sullivan
@hispoetry Think that speaks of confidence in God, not self? #mkBiblechatBrian W.
RT @bassmanbrian: @hispoetry Think that speaks of confidence in God, not self? >>Definitely. :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome @hispoetry Christ made the way for us, to be able to do that #mkBiblechatBrian W.
So consider Acts 1:14 again: These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication… #MKBibleChatHasten Home
And Luke 24:52, 53 they worshipped Jesus…And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
It has already been mentioned, but Q6 Where was their focus? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
A6 Their focus was on God! #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Q7 At this point, one of the original 12 disciples was missing. Who was it? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
#MKBibleChat Q7 Judas Iscariot was missingbridgit sullivan
A7 Judas. Q8 What was it that had permanently disqualified Judas Iscariot? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome Judas betrayed Christ in a fairly big way #mkBiblechatBrian W.
@HastenHome Jesus actually disclosed he would be excluded through his betrayal, #mkbiblechatScott Denard
Did Jesus say, "I know you’ll betray me; you cannot be my disciple"? Or did Judas’ choice disqualify himself? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome No it was Judas choice or actually lack of a rt choice, but Jesus disclosed it wld B better if he had not bn born #mkbiblechatScott Denard
#MKBibleChat Judas chose to exercise His free will n betray Jesus as prophesied in OT. prophrecy doesnt alter free will it accounts for itbridgit sullivan
@LSDsr Yes. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@hispoetry Very good point. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@hispoetry Psalm 41:9 is one of those prophecies of Judas; I was just looking some of them up #mkBiblechatBrian W.
@HastenHome A good point, If I could, to be made is this eliminates any possibility of second chances after death #mkbiblechatScott Denard
@HastenHome @LSDsr It is amazing how many miss that #mkBiblechatBrian W.
#MKBibleChat death of the flesh sets ur eternal destination permanentlybridgit sullivan
@hispoetry That is really the battle isnt it, flesh and the world vs. God, of course we know who ultimately wins #mkBiblechatBrian W.
@bassmanbrian yes we do but so many dont its y i tweet n y i preach God bless #MKBibleChatbridgit sullivan
Q9 Which of the other disciples was perfect? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome wondering if this is a trick question? #mkBiblechatBrian W.
RT @bassmanbrian: @HastenHome wondering if this is a trick question?>>lol, I don’t hink so. :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
A9 None of the other disciples were perfect. But they were trusting in their Saviour! #MKBibleChatHasten Home
I believe Acts ch 2 was possible largely because of Acts ch 1. Let’s consider this in closing… #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Q10 What should we be doing/thinking/etc if we hope to be true disciples of Jesus, filled with His Spirit? #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome all of us thinkin alike and lovin each other. #MKBibleChatTrusting God Always
@HastenHome books could be written on this; in summary pray, repent, evangelize, worship #mkBiblechatBrian W.
Time is up again…Next week…Pentecost! Same day, same time. I hope you will be here! :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Let’s pray: Father, give us a hunger for your Spirit, & a sense of our need. Bind us together… #MKBibleChatHasten Home
that we may be as one as You & Your Son are one… #MKBibleChatHasten Home
Thank You for working through us, imperfect instruments of Your glory. In Jesus name, Amen. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
I’ll be posting a summary of today’s chat after while for any who r interested. :) Thank you all so much for ur participation! #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@bassmanbrian the Pentecost was fifty days after the resurrection, which was determined by the Jewish holidays #mkbiblechatScott Denard
@bassmanbrian Pentecost or Shavuot, the late Spring thanksgiving for the first harvest. Seven weeks or 50 days after Passover #mkbiblechatScott Denard
@bassmanbrian Alot of people miss the fact that most all recorded appearances that specify time comes out to a Sunday #mkbiblechatScott Denard
I’ll be signing out for now. Until next time, Hasten Home, friends! :) #MKBibleChatHasten Home
@HastenHome Thank U 4 the great chat and God bless U #mkbiblechatScott Denard
@LSDsr You,too. #MKBibleChatHasten Home
