When you’re feeling down, what music cheers you up?

Without a doubt, I am cheered by singing encouraging hymns and Scripture songs. I believe that the music we choose to listen to and repeat with our own voice matters, whatever mood we may be in. It is either building us up or tearing us down. Intentionally inviting the Holy Spirit into our hearts brings peace, for Jesus is the Prince of Peace.
I have been on quite a musical journey throughout my life. Last fall, our family was privileged to attend a thought-provoking seminar entitled “The Distraction Dilemma” by Shepherd’s Call Ministry (soon to be available on DVD). My previous convictions on music were confirmed and expanded.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” –Colossians 3:16, KJV
I believe strongly in the importance of teaching our children the importance of—and modeling for them the genuine joy to be found in—singing for God’s glory. We should never underestimate the positive power of pure, holy music in our family worship, church services, and Vacation Bible School programs. Be sure the children in your sphere of influence go out fortified with the Word of God in song!

It's okay to be 1st! Or 549th, for that matter... I'm eager to hear from you!
